Drawing Meadow, 2005
A long piece of white cotton was spread on the ground near by a large tree, forming an elongated shape. Crayons, paint, water containers, brushes, flowers and leaves
are scattered on the ground. For many hours I lie on the ground wearing white dress. I draw around my body with crayons and brushes. Children gradually join me
inside the meadow. They come and go in different intervals of time. Their floating presence corresponds with the changing shadows of the tree's branches, and the
appearing and disappearing sunlight. As the light continues to change, the shadows create shapes and lines on the cotton meadow together with the stains of blue and
green paint and water, which gradually cover the fabric. My dress and white tee-shirts of the children receive some of the marks and stains. A few minutes after the
action is over, heavy rain begins to pour down, floodding the entire area.
During the action I suspended a video camera from the tree. An aerial view of the drawing meadow was filmed as if seen by the tree itself. I edited several hours of
the footage into 14-minutes story, focusing on the delicate changes of light, shadow, and human presence and absence, all weaved together like floating waters of a
river.
Sound composition includes site-specific recording of the near by water fountain combined with altered voices of children, opera singing, wind, and noises of
building machines.
